My functional chiropractor recommended that I take one milligram of melatonin for each year I have been on this planet. Curiosity led me to investigate why he would suggest this, when so many are badmouthing melatonin. I discovered that there are books written on the subject, and I have increased the amount of melatonin that I am taking.
That book was published in 1996. I have read two, more recent, books on melatonin, but I will give the one you suggested a look, and thank you for the recommendation.
I had my husband on Melatonin 60mg, 4x a day, for his Stage 4 Melanoma with Mets..
We took the alternative route and after following Dr Frank Shallenberger and Dr Russell Reiter, I believe it to be a valuable part of the cancer protocol. My husband has been NED for about 12 mths now🙏
In some studies early-day use of Melatonin actually shows an increase in cancer risk. Stay with the diurnal rhythm of taking it later in the day or at night.
Thank you, this is what makes it hard for lay people such as myself, the ‘experts’ do not always agree with each other. When listening to Dr Reiter, he stated he had been taking melatonin daily for some 35 years or more (I believe he is now in his 80’s). Both he and Dr Shallenberger advocated around the clock for active cancer so that was as deep as I dived. Now that you have mentioned the diurnal rhythm I will do some further reading, much appreciated.
I have been using melatonin and other vitamins and FDA approved drugs to treat cancer for the last decade in my concierge practice in Sarasota. I have had excellent results and have been interested to see that some cancer docs are using doses of 180 mg melatonin BID to TID and at those doses patients do not have excessive somnolence.
In our clinic on reversing immunosenescence of macrophages to reestablishe wellness, any client taking more than 2 mg of melatonin per night became immunosuppressed (5 mg /night= very immunosuppressed and 10 mg/night very,VERY immunosuppressed.) By immunosuppression I mean inhibiting trained innate immunity in foamy M1 macrophages related to the HERV-K102 defense system that accumulating evidence suggests is critical against tumors and pandemics. If you check with AI you will see that melatonin indeed converts M1 Macrophages to M2 with loss of host defense. If you want more protection against ROS then go outside and sit in the sun 20 minutes a day for the near infra red as this tops up melatonin in the cells but not in the blood!
Good job, Mike on the Melatonin piece. I usually comment on Topical Melatonin as a solo or in combo with oral tabs/caps or gummies. Dr. Shippen clued me into that. Topical Melatonin has in some cases, been shown to increase hair growth for those inclined to use it for that purpose.
Thank you Dr. Turner, your blessed article will be added to an authority cancer site.
As a,survivor of a terminal metastatic to the brain cancer, let it be known that PET & CAT scans give a significant, not nominal amount of radiation. You can significantly reduce that amount of absorption by taking 100mg of Melatonin an hour or 2 prior
True Science: - Our DNA
Perplexity Ai Enhanced:
Human Study on DNA Protection A double-blind, placebo-controlled human study found that a single 100 mg dose of melatonin taken one hour before a CT scan resulted in a significant reduction in DNA double-strand breaks in peripheral blood lymphocytes compared to controls. The effect was measured as a reduced number of γH2AX foci, a biomarker for DNA breakage
I added this article in the forum section with your cancer article listing preferred brands w/ your protocol. Do you have any recommendations for sensory recovery from long Covid and/or cancer going metastatic to the brain?
There's so many unbeliever MDs, even at TOP institutes (MD Anderson & Bascom Palmer) that are throwing their hands up at regenerating the optic & Cochlear hearing nerves.

Glad to hear it, Deb.. Best book I have found -- from the original melatonin researcher and guru -- is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Melatonin-Breakthrough-Discoveries-Combat-Disease/dp/0553574841
Doc, is the heart association shouting that melatonin can harm the heart for nefarious reasons?

Do they not realize that melatonin does much more than just make you sleepy?

What do you think of the substance gaba?
Edit: what do you think of the supplement gaba?
Deb, different people have different results when taking gaba. It really has no negative side effects, so it is worth a try.

I found this link (in another article) on how Melatonin reduces galectin-3 - in human cells, and in mice.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36333557/
Melatonin ameliorates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis via activating NRF2 and inhibiting galectin-3 expression
Is there a reputable company that supplies sublingual melatonin?
Pure Encapsulations is highly reputable - and expensive. Goes with the territory. They got drops.

Thanks for the insight, JP. Didn't know that and will definitely keep it in mind.
Who is dr marik?
Hello Curtis... Here is more information about him: https://imahealth.org/experts/paul-e-marik/. He is a close colleague and courageous physician.
You haven't been paying attention.

Thanks for sharing, Geoff! Quite interesting...
